MISSISSAUGA SPORTS HALL OF FAME
Born: May 23, 1984
At the age of 5, Olympic coach Alex Bard, spotted Ashley's artistic gymnastics potential and supported her development. Her later rise through the gymnastics ranks came during a time of tragedy. The Port Credit native captured the Elite Canada all-around title in 2000, the same year she grieved the loss of her primary coach, Irina Ivleva, who was killed in a car crash while driving the gymnastics meet.
Ashley was selected for the national team in 2000 and held her spot on the squad until 2003. Over that span, she won the 2001 Jurassic Classic in Calgary, the all-around silver medal at the 2001 Canadian Championships and represented Canada in two world championships.
